Cultural Engineering Projects
We have designed interpretive centers, historic renovations, information kiosks, outdoor and site lighting, and public restroom buildings at facilities managed by the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife, and the US Department of Fish & Wildlife. At Crater Lake and Timberline Lodge, our team has worked to restore and renovate several historic facilities. We have also performed design services for national wildlife refuges in Nevada, Guam, Wisconsin, Washington and Oregon. Many of these refuge facilities include interpretive centers and galleries for local artifacts, and have been designed to meet green building standards. The designers at Interface have also been involved in local and municipal park and recreation projects, like the Pringle Hall Complex in Salem, Oxbow Park in Northeast Portland, Amazon Park in Eugene, and the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District's Terpenning Center in Beaverton, which includes a swim center housing an Olympic sized pool, a tennis center, and multiple outdoor sports fields.
We have also worked with local city and county governments, state and government agencies, and non-profit organizations to design for community centers, libraries, churches, and offices. These projects have included new construction, renovations and remodels, and additions. Each type of project presents its own requirements. For example, churches and theaters require theatrical lighting and HVAC systems designed to handle high-ceilings and packed houses. But, for libraries, humidification and ventilation are key. In each case, our engineers and designers have worked with the local authority having jurisdiction to determine a plan of action in sync with the surrounding community. This is accomplished through public meetings, project steering group involvement, and design charrettes between project team members and project owners, all of which aid the project team in meeting the functional and aesthetic goals of the project.
