King Street Transit Station

King Street Transit Station

Seattle, WA

This project involved the rehabilitation of this historic Seattle landmark, built in 1906.  The project included the removal of additions and modifications to the building in the 1950s and 1960s.  Architectural sensitivity was key throughout the design process, and new fire safety technologies were used to reduce aesthetic impacts.  Interface provided the design of electrical, fire/life safety, and lighting systems.  Interface’s expertise with Seattle Building and Fire Codes aided the design team in code analysis of this historic building.  Throughout the design and construction process there was continued coordination and communication between community advisory groups and stakeholders, including the Washington state, King County, and the City of Seattle, along with other groups.  Adjacent stakeholders, including King Street Center, Union Station and the former Kingdome, were also included.
